Therma-Tru Door Installation: The Fort Pierce Owner’s Guide

Therma-Tru door installation in Fort Pierce typically runs $420 to $980 installed for a full door slab replacement, depending on the series, size, and whether the frame needs work too. We stock Therma-Tru-compatible hinge sets, sweeps, weatherstripping, threshold kits, and door slabs on the truck for most service calls, and on many days we can have a replacement installed in a single visit. Most homeowners find us the same way: the door worked fine for a decade, then one afternoon it would not latch without a shoulder behind it, or the bottom edge started dragging across the threshold every time the humidity climbed. That is the Florida pattern. The door itself is rarely the problem. The installation around it, and the small parts underneath it, usually are.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

We work on the full Therma-Tru fiberglass and steel door lines, including the Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, Smooth-Star, and Pulse series, along with the older Benchmark line still hanging in a lot of Fort Pierce homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s. The critical detail with Therma-Tru is the hinge prep. Their doors use a proprietary adjustable hinge system backed by a screw plate set into a fiberglass stile, and that plate is not something you want to trust to a generic replacement. If you look at the hinge edge of your door, you will see the Therma-Tru name and a series code stamped on the top stile of most slabs. That code tells us the series, which narrows the slab to the correct core construction, and the swing, which tells us the hinge orientation before we even unload the truck. We keep OEM doors and hardware in hand for most current series, and quality aftermarket equivalents only where the manufacturer has discontinued a line.

One Fort Pierce gotcha worth knowing before you order a slab online: Therma-Tru door slabs come in standard widths of 30, 32, and 36 inches, but the slab height is where DIY orders fall apart. A lot of older Fort Pierce door frames were rough-framed at 80 inches, not the 82 and a half that newer pre-hung units assume. If you buy a pre-hung unit for an 80-inch opening off the internet, you will be notching the bottom rail and voiding the Therma-Tru warranty before the caulk is dry. We measure every opening twice before we order, because coming back twice is not how TruePane builds a reputation.

If you are working on a door, we also know the landscape well around here, and we can tell you honestly when a Therma-Tru door from 1998 is worth a slab replacement and when you would be better served starting fresh with a new pre-hung unit from one of the other lines we support, PGT, CGI, CWS, Andersen, and Pella among them. That side-by-side conversation, on paper, with the price of each, is how Dale Kessler has always run a quote.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Door Installation Is Failing

  • The door rubs or binds at the top or latch side in summer. Florida humidity and our wet season swell door frames just enough that a slab that was square in February becomes a scraping, sticking reminder by August. We see it every year in White City and Lakewood Park. The fix is usually realignment, not a new door.
  • The sweep under the door has torn away or hardened into a curled strip. A door sweep in coastal air, full of salt and sun, gives up after four or five years. When it fails, you will see daylight under the door and feel the draft in the winter months when the temperature drops into the 50s.
  • The threshold feels spongy or the door is not seating against the weatherstrip evenly. Thresholds settle, especially on concrete slabs left by the original builder. If a dollar bill slides through the weatherstrip without resistance anywhere along the latch edge, that seal is gone and the air conditioner is paying for it.
  • Loose hinge screws that will not tighten. Therma-Tru screws are threaded into the backup plates inside the stile. If a previous handyman solved a stripped plate by ramming in a longer drywall screw, the adjustment is compromised and the door will sag again.
  • Water staining or soft spots at the bottom corners of the slab. That is capillary moisture wicking up past a failed threshold or bottom seal. In a coastal city like Fort Pierce, that means the door’s bottom rail is absorbing water and will eventually delaminate or rot if it is wood-edged.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Pierce, a Therma-Tru slab replacement generally runs $420 to $980 installed, including the new slab, hinge and sweep hardware, a fresh threshold where the old one is compromised, and the labor to hang and adjust it square. A full pre-hung replacement, where the frame itself has been too far gone for years, runs higher and depends on the unit. A door installation is not a part you want priced over the phone sight unseen. We quote the line items on paper before any work starts and we do not add surprise charges after the fact. Both manufacturer warranty layers get registered in writing before our truck leaves your driveway, and our Done Right Promise covers the workmanship with no fine print. We stand behind it.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner who is handy can handle a few things: checking that hinge screws are snug, cleaning the threshold track, replacing a torn sweep with the correct Therma-Tru profile, and noting where the door drags. No high-tension springs or electrical work are involved in a standard Therma-Tru entry door, so this is a safer project than a garage door. The place DIY goes wrong is the slab swap itself. Getting a fiberglass slab hung square, with the correct reveal on all four sides and the hinges transferred to the precise depth, is where we see weekend work that will not latch by the next wet season. If the pane is not true, the job is not done, and a door that is out of plumb by an eighth of an inch will remind you every day. Call (772) 218-5890 and have us look at it. The estimate is free.
